The Tennessee Department of Transportation has announced that on Tuesday and Wednesday crews will conduct an inspection and survey of the Interstate 24 East bridge and bridge deck over Chestnut Street at mile marker 178.4 near the U.S. 27 interchange.

The work will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day, weather permitting.

During the work, the bridge will be completely closed and traffic will be rerouted off and back onto I-24 East using Exit 178. Both a visual inspection and Light Detection and Ranging survey will be performed on the bridge in preparation for a future project to replace the entire deck.

Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances prevent this work from being done, it will be rescheduled to take place at a later date.

TDOT regional operations crews and HELP trucks will provide traffic control during this work. As soon as the inspection/survey is completed, the bridge will be reopened to traffic.
