Editor’s Note: Barry Courter has a 26-year-old son who is a college graduate and a 22-year-old daughter who is a college senior. Each week he poses a question he wishes they would ask.
Q: What do I do if I want to go to college A, but Mom and Dad want B and my friends all say C?
A: I’ll answer it the way a local college baseball coach put it to me, but kind of on a different topic: “Mom and Dad aren’t the ones who are going to be running sprints at 6 in the morning when it’s freezing cold or 100 degrees. But they might have a good reason for their choice, so talk it over. And your friends have nothing to do with it.”
