Three-year-old boy shot in Apison has died

Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Adams, strings up crime scene tape as the HCSO investigate the shooting death of a 3-year-old boy outside the home at 4724 Gates Lane. The boy, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital on Monday, February 29, 2016, where he was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff's office.

A 3-year-old boy was shot and killed in Apison just before 9:30 a.m. today, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The boy was inside his family's vehicle, which was parked outside their home at 4724 Gates Lane, when the shooting happened. Investigators have not said whether the shooting was accidental or intentional, and have not said whether the boy shot himself or was shot by another person.

Investigators also declined to say what type of weapon was used and where the boy was wounded.

The boy, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators gathered evidence at the home throughout the morning. The neighborhood is quiet and rural, with the home tucked at the bottom of a hilly dirt road.

Neighbors say the family has lived there for several years and that the boy was a lively, active toddler.

The family of the boy declined to speak with the Times Free Press.
