A Memphis-based freight truck dealership is planning to build a modern, $20 million center on the former Mall of Memphis property it recently purchased for $3.9 million.

According to The Commercial Appeal, TAG Truck Center President Tommy Earl said Monday that the company will consolidate its four Memphis-area operations onto 40 acres bounded by American Way and I-240.

The company is hoping to start construction on the project this summer, with the new center being able to open in 2017.

According to the Shelby County Register's website, TAG's purchase of the 113-acre property closed Dec. 29.

Johnson Development Associates bought the property for $2.7 million in 2012. The mall was razed nearly 12 years ago.
