Don’t let missing teeth make you miss out

Missing teeth can be a hindrance that prevents people from experiencing life to the fullest. Whether you have trouble eating foods you love or are afraid to laugh out loud, Drs. Mandy and Robert Shearer at Soddy Daisy Smiles want you to know there are options available to help put an end to missing teeth.

“Patients can choose from removable partials and dentures, or a fixed bridge and dental implant,” Dr. Mandy Shearer said. “You may be a candidate for any one or all of them, depending on the circumstances.”

When it comes to fixed bridges, the adjacent teeth are prepared by reducing their size (or cut down) to remove all the enamel, making room for the prosthetic tooth restoration. A prosthetic tooth (or teeth) can be suspended between adjacent teeth in this way to provide a functional and cosmetic replacement for the missing tooth.

Shearer went on to share one particular case involving two fixed bridges (pictured in this article).

“This patient was born without her two maxillary lateral incisors and wore a removable partial,” Shearer explained. “After discussing all the options, she chose two fixed bridges, and the use of the bridges allowed to us replace the two missing teeth and to improve the shape and color of the other teeth in the smile area.”
