DeKalb County, Ala., authorities say an investigation that led to sodomy charges being filed recently has not linked the crimes to local schools.
“It’s more of a family situation. It’s not involved with any schools or school activities,” DeKalb County Chief Deputy Michael Edmondson said Friday.
The sheriff’s office investigation is continuing after sodomy charges were leveled Dec. 8 against a man and woman from Fort Payne.
Donald William Thomason, 19, and Renae Wynn Kenyon, 18, each are charged with sodomy, first-degree, according to a statement released after their arrest by Sheriff Jimmy Harris. The investigation was sparked by a tip to authorities, said Harris, who was appreciative for help from the state Department of Human Resources and the Child Advocacy Center.
Edmondson on Wednesday said investigators believe there are more victims in the case and that minors could be involved. The chief deputy declined to put a number on how many victims could be identified through the probe. Meanwhile, Kenyon and Thomason each are being held on $60,000 bond, according to records at the DeKalb County Jail.
In Fort Payne, Edmondson stressed that local residents understand the case in DeKalb County has not been linked to schools in any way.
Anyone with any information about the ongoing investigation involving Thomason and Kenyon is asked to call the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office at 256-304-0456.
