Nicole Manning wants you to know your camera can do more than you think it can.
The local photographer and owner of Show Me a Smile Photography is offering a beginner’s course to talk about the basics of a quality photo, and how to optimize settings for any lighting or subject matter.
“People often tell me I must just have a really great camera and that’s why my pictures are so good but it’s really about knowing those settings,” Manning said, referencing her start in photography years ago. “I want people to understand it isn’t just the camera, it’s about using the right settings to capture your vision for the photo and what you understand about lighting.”
The beginner photography class is being held at Audubon Acres, where participants will be able to practice their new-found skills photographing the landscape as well as doing portraits, Manning said.
“Audubon Acres is one of my favorite places to have photo sessions. It’s so versatile, it has a great feel – beautiful homestead and suspension bridge. In the spring it’s full of wildflowers and it’s just a fabulous place overall, year-round,” she said.
If there is enough interest in this class, additional workshops and more-advanced courses can be offered in the future, she added.
The class is set for Saturday, Jan. 23 from 9:15 a.m. to noon. Those interested need to register in advance by calling 883-9754 or via email at showmeasmile@outlook.com. Cost to attend is $59.
