WASHINGTON (AP) – Democrats are growing more concerned that the Hillary Clinton-Bernie Sanders contest could turn into a months-long nomination fight damaging to the party.
Most believe Clinton will still capture the nomination. But some say she is failing to respond effectively to Sanders. And that could be both fueling his rise and strengthening the Republican argument against her if she is the Democratic candidate in the fall.
The tightening nature of the race hasn’t sparked widespread panic among her supporters yet.
But it’s worrying some donors, as well as Bill Clinton and their daughter, Chelsea, who shared her concerns at a meeting with supporters in New York. That’s according to people close to the campaign, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the private conversations.
