Alphonse Taylor was suspended indefinitely Monday afternoon by Alabama football coach Nick Saban following the fifth-year senior guard’s arrest Sunday morning for driving under the influence.

Taylor led the Crimson Tide last season with 57 knockdown blocks, and he missed just 12 assignments and allowed only one sack in Alabama’s 15 games. He played last season at 6-foot-5 and 325 pounds but had ballooned to 345 by this spring and was demoted to the second team.

“We are very disappointed any time a player makes a choice that leads to this kind of behavior,” Saban said in a released statement. “We are still in the process of gathering all of the details on the situation, but from a football standpoint, Alphonse Taylor has been indefinitely suspended from the team.”

Redshirt freshman Brandon Kennedy replaced Taylor in the spring as the first-team right guard, where Taylor made 15 starts last season.
