The Signal Mountain Library is hosting a grand opening for its refurbished lower level, now called The Gallery, Saturday, June 4 from 2:30-4 p.m.

“I hope people will come out to see it,” said librarian Karin Glendenning. “All the money for the renovations was raised through the community.”

The Gallery now comprises three rooms: the library board’s meeting room; the Frank Hill Floatilla, an area highlighting the seven model ships donated to the library by Signal Mountain resident Frank Hill; and the Book Nook, where the Friends of the Library sells donated books and older books that have been discarded by the library at discounted prices.

The new configuration enables the library to host two meetings at once, Glendenning added. While no square footage has been added to the lower level, she said things have been moved around to create more space, and it has been repainted and new lights have been installed.

“It’s really pretty and much brighter and will be a great boon to the library,” she said. “We’ve been waiting for it a long time and feel it’s going to enhance the programs we have and better utilize the space.”
