Chickamauga’s Don Martin credits his health, especially following a recent stroke and unrelated prostate surgery, to his faith. As the owner of Suburban Auto Sales and the adjacent American Car Wash in Chickamauga, in addition to serving on the City Council, Don Martin stays busy.
Add on top of that being a member of the Chickamauga Lions Club, which he joined in 1993 and has served as president for twice, and a member of the Rossville Exchange Club, for which he has served as president four times in the same time period.
But all that was put on hold – momentarily, at least – when Martin recently suffered a stroke.
“I’m a tough old bird,” said Martin, who is now fully back at all his obligations. “I’m just like a rubber ball, I bounce right back. You have to keep a good positive attitude and you’ll be fine.”
His was what’s called a bleeding stroke, basically an aneurysm, when a weakened blood vessel bursts and puts pressure on the brain and surrounding tissue.
