According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each day, children and adolescents need at least an hour of physical activity, which should include aerobic activity as well as muscle and bone strengthening exercises.
One way for children to fulfill the recommended amount of exercise is to participate in the Mountain Arts Community Center’s Boot Camp for Kids, to be held Monday-Friday, June 27 through July 1 from 9:30-11 a.m. each day.
Instructor Wendy Reisman is a certified personal trainer who has previously taught Zumba for kids at the MACC, as well as physical education at Thrasher Elementary.
Designed for kids ages 7-12, the camp will use games and activities to make interval training fun, she said.
“My goal during the week is to incorporate games with bouts of high-intensity exercise, because no kid’s going to want to exercise for 90 minutes,” laughed Reisman. “Hopefully they won’t even know they’re sweating and getting a workout in.”
