Hamilton County planners gave approval to a proposed $100 million development in East Brainerd that includes a grocery store, new retailers and apartments.
The plans call for work to begin as early as November to continue work at the Waterside lifestyle center off Shallowford and Gunbarrel roads.
However, the project still must receive the OK from the City Council before moving forward at the 62-acre site that already includes an hhgregg store and some smaller retailers.
Chattanooga developer Ken Defoor and Atlanta development group Branch Properties want to push ahead with the project after getting a thumbs up from the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission.
