The Apison Tornado Memorial and flagpole will require some serious repair after a car crashed into them early Tuesday morning.

According to a news release, deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene on 10200 East Brainerd Road shortly after 12:15 a.m.

Deputies found a silver Acura RS6, driven by Frankie Parsons and containing Jesse Morris, both of whom were complaining about painful breathing.

Emergency medical services personnel were called to give the two men medical attention, but both refused transport to a hospital. Deputies noticed the vehicle matched the description of a car involved in another incident Monday night in Catoosa County, Ga., in which the driver fled the scene after destroying a fence and driving through private property.

They also noticed a strong smell of alcohol. After failing a sobriety test, Parsons was taken into custody on a DUI charge.

Morris possessed marijuana and was arrested for possession of a firearm while intoxicated, authorities said.

The investigation is continuing.
