Department hopes Davidson Road study will help all of Chattanooga area

By the end of 2016, Chattanooga Department of Transportation officials will know what to do about the much-discussed issues plaguing Davidson Road.

And they hope to use their study of the roadway to understand how to tackle similar road safety concerns elsewhere.

Frequent flooding on Davidson Road due to drainage issues, the narrowness of the road and blind curves have caused years of concern and conversation regarding the road. But until recently, money was never available to study the specific problems to find a successful and cost effective long-term solution.

Now, as Pratt & Associates plans the beginning phases of a 40-acre development of single-family homes along adjoining Julian Road, a city study to determine the best answer for improving Davidson is set to begin in July, according to CDOT Administrator Blythe Bailey.

“We expect to have the results of the study completed in time to be considered during the creation of the next [fiscal] budget,” he said via email, referring to the 2017-2018 fiscal budget which will be decided next June.
