Performers from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga music faculty will be joined by student instrumentalists, the UTC Men’s Chorus, the Women’s Chorale, the Chattanooga Singers and the Chamber Singers for the second Kaleidoscope Concert. Designed as a colorful mix of music, the program will feature selections ranging from funny to jazzy, to lyrical and lovely, to downright exciting, according to organizers.
Case in point: Closing out the program will be UTC Piano Ensemble on the lighthearted, romping “Galop-Marche,” which features eight pianists on two pianos, seated side by side and playing simultaneously.
Leading up to this grand finale will be a tribute to jazz clarinetist Benny Goodman, an homage to the cartoon characters Tom and Jerry, Celtic-inspired music, lovely English songs, an expressive work for cello by a UTC composer, Bach played on the marimba, the evocative “Reflections in Water” for piano and sonorous choral music.
Kaleidoscope Concert II takes place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 4, in Roland Hayes Hall in the UTC Fine Arts Center, 752 Vine St. Admission is free, as is parking, and the venue is wheelchair accessible.
