Signal Mountain Police Department Capt. Scott Ogroeowczyk, who trains police officers on how to avoid and handle dangerous situations, is turning his attention to the Signal Mountain community with his upcoming class on personal and property protection.

The eight-week class will meet at Signal School of Physical Education on Mondays starting March 14 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Ogroeowczyk started teaching defense tactics to SMPD officers in 1988, and officially began his law enforcement career with SMPD in 1990. He then trained officers from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office from 2000-2003. Ogroeowczyk is also on the board of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Officer Association.

The upcoming series at SSPE is not the first time he has offered his knowledge to the general public; he taught a similar course at Chattanooga State for eight years.

SSPE representatives were aware of Ogroeowczyk’s course at Chattanooga State and contacted him to see if he would offer something similar at SSPE.
