No one was injured in an afternoon house fire in East Lake where flames gutted a home at 3001 15th Ave.
The first firefighters to get to the home reported a “full-blown structure fire,” and they started checking for victims. A lone woman who was inside the home managed to get out safely, officials said.
Battalion Chief Chris Willmore called for a fifth fire company to fight the quickly spreading blaze. Willmore ordered firefighters out of the house once the flames penetrated the roof and they continued to battle the fire from outside.
Using handheld hose lines and deck guns on the trucks, firefighters got the fire under control after about an hour. The initial call went out at 2:42 p.m. Monday.
The loss is estimated at $95,000 for the building and its contents.
