A Crossville, Ala., toddler drowned Wednesday in a back yard fish pond, according to DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris.
Authorities went to a home on County Road 29 in Crossville where they found a 20-month-old child on the ground near a small goldfish pond. Deputy Andy Brown and Aroney Volunteer Fire Department personnel performed CPR until paramedics arrived, but were unable to revive the infant.
This is still an ongoing investigation, Harris said in a statement.
“This is a tragic accident that has happened and our thoughts and prayers goes out to the family and friends,” Harris said.
