One motorcyclist is dead and another rider is critically injured after crashing into a guard rail on Cummings Highway Friday at approximately 5:00 p.m.

According to a press release from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s office, two motorcycles were riding south in the outside lane when a vehicle driving in the inside lane veered over causing one of them to swerve and hit the rail.

Both the driver and the passenger were thrown off the bike and the driver was pronounced dead-on-arrival by deputies. The passenger was flown to an area hospital by a LifeForce Helicopter.

The names of the victims are being withheld until their families are properly notified.
