KNOXVILLE – Between their similar builds and matching combinations of black socks and black cleats, it’s easy to mistake Tennessee wide receivers Jauan Jennings and Preston Williams for one another when they’re in uniform.

The Volunteers would like to see both become reliable playmakers this offseason.

After five practices, Jennings and Williams have had promising starts to this spring, and that’s a positive development for an offense that needs some wide receivers to step up.

“Those two play off each other well,” receivers coach Zach Azzanni said after Thursday’s practice. “I’m excited to have those two out there in the lineup. Those are two really good players if they can keep progressing the way we want them to progress. They’re big, they’re physical, they’re rangy. They’re very, very competitive.

“They play off each other well, and they don’t lack confidence, either one of them. Every day they’re getting a little bit better, and I’m pleased with the progress.”
