For its April show, “Really Rad Rust,” In-Town Gallery will feature “a unique artist with an unusual medium”: metal sculptor Denise Bizot.

Spokeswoman Jennie Kirkpatrick describes Bizot’s process as “a totally unique approach to metal sculpture [that] keeps visitors demanding more.”

Bizot will be on hand for the opening reception Friday evening, April 1.

A transplant from New Orleans, Bizot creates both freestanding and wall-hung sculptures. Ordinary or discarded pieces of metal are artfully repurposed into interesting shapes and surfaces that have been changed by chemical means – in this case, rust.

Larger, flat pieces may be cut with a plasma torch so that the designs cast shadow and enhance the depth when the piece is hung on the wall. Freestanding pieces are usually assemblages of discarded equipment welded together then given a finish.
