Former Cleveland HS quarterback headed to Arkansas State

Former Cleveland High School quarterback Chad Voytik apparently is calling an audible on his final season of college football.

Voytik, who spent four seasons at Pitt and redshirted as a freshman in 2012, announced at the end of last year he would pursue a graduate transfer in anticipation of completing his degree this spring.

Last month Voytik told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette he would play for FCS member Eastern Kentucky of the Ohio Valley Conference, but in a story in Sunday’s Cleveland Daily Banner, he said he will instead transfer to Arkansas State, which competes in the FBS and Sun Belt Conference. Voytik told the newspaper he is “100 percent going there” after making an official visit, then making his mind up Saturday.

Voytik was the Panthers’ starting quarterback in 2014 and began last season No. 1 before being replaced by Nathan Peterman, who began his college career at Tennessee.

Voytik passed for more than 2,200 yards in 2014, when he had 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions, but he attempted just 24 passes last season.
