Much has changed in the design world since Marsha Yessick opened Yessick’s on Gunbarrel Road in 1978, but her attention to detail and client-centric business model has not.
The combination retail and design business’s East Brainerd location, one of three across Chattanooga, has reinvented itself as a design resource center to showcase Yessick’s and her staff’s years of expertise and style knowledge.
To make room for the samples, swatches and displays for the design center, Yessick held a huge sale last month to move inventory and make way for the new items. But make no mistake, the center still carries many signature retail items, Yessick clarified, but the storefront showroom now also provides clients and potential customers access to one of the largest resource centers in the Southeast for interior design.
“We still have retail, we still have a lot of art, and we still want people to come in and shop around,” she said. ” But we really wanted to focus on our design work. People are busy. They need and want help. And we have the experience to do that.”
Personally, Yessick’s favorite current trend is downsizing. Although it’s not for everyone, she acknowledged, the trend has influenced designs beyond just for tiny-house owners.
“Lots of furniture and manufacturing companies are recognizing that downsizing appeal and are designing furniture that is multipurpose,” she said. “Now it’s about a little bit cleaner, a little bit sleeker, a little bit more transitional a little bit more eclectic. It’s blending antiques with a transitional cocktail table to get a different look.”
Yessick’s Design Center is located at 1926 Gunbarrel Road. For more information, call 892-1785. Or, for the business’s other locations on Signal or Lookout mountains, visit yessicks.com.
“We have always focused on the needs and wants of our clients – that’s No. 1. I think one of our strongest abilities has always been to decipher our clients’ wants and prioritize wants and needs,” said Yessick. “As far as design itself, it’s ever-changing. Trends change all the time. But we plan to always be here.”
