School may be over, but a small mountain of maintenance work has just begun for Walker County Schools.

Schools Superintendent Damon Raines gave the Board of Education updates on several projects during their most recent meeting.

The LaFayette High School Ag Barn building is nearly complete. Now, “The contractor will be back on-site to complete sidewalks, electrical and lighting,” Raines reported during the planning session. “The maintenance department is looking now to complete the enclosed portion of the building into a classroom or lab to be completed over the summer.”

At the Center for Evaluation and Consultation, the old Fairview School Maintenance Department is working to make repairs and clean up in preparation for the YMCA to use the building this summer as a trial for a summer program.

“We are preparing and confirming to have the old home place at Rossville Middle School demolished and removed,” added Raines. “The historical logs that make up part of the home place will be kept and stored on-site. Adverse material will need to be removed by an approved environmental company from the home before demolition can take place by a certified contractor.”
