The traveling portion of the 35th Juried Exhibition of the Tennessee Watercolor Society will stop in Chattanooga this month, opening with a reception Friday evening, Oct. 7, at AVA Gallery.
The TWS, which is celebrating its 45th anniversary, mounts its biennial exhibition at galleries across the state. This year’s was hosted by the Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville at The Emporium Center. When it closed in late June, 30 of the 55 paintings selected by juror John Salminen began a seven-month tour of the state.
Organizers say the highlight of the exhibition is that 14 of the 16 award-winning paintings are included. These “best of the best” earned their artists prizes ranging from $250 to $1,200.
Two of the award winners, Joan Clark and Sandra Washburn, are from Chattanooga. Other local artists whose works are included are Sandy Boone, Helen Burton, Harriet Chipley and Jennie Kirkpatrick.
Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and the first Saturday of each month.
