Area residents hoping to buy or sell goods through online correspondence now have a safer way to make their in-person exchanges.
The Collegedale Police Department recently designated an e-commerce safe zone just outside its headquarters. Officials say it should eliminate some of the risk for locals attempting to make transactions through classifieds websites like Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace.
The safe zone, which encompasses two parking spaces right outside the department, is equipped with two surveillance cameras and a nearby phone that dials straight to 911.
The setup is designed to discourage theft during the meetups and ensure that perpetrators are caught quickly if something does occur.
