Compton chosen for Aerospace Scholar program
Jared Compton of Pikeville, Tenn., a student in the Global Scholars Honors Program at Chattanooga State Community College, recently participated in an online NASA Community College Aerospace Scholar Program in which students learned about past and future Mars missions.
From that experience he has been selected to take part in a four-day workshop at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., next month. He will work on a team project directed by NASA engineers, attend briefings with engineers and scientists, tour NASA facilities and explore career possibilities.
Compton says he had no idea what to expect during the five-week, online Community College Aerospace Scholar Program but came away with “so much knowledge from this opportunity.”
“Seeking out information like what was presented in the course is something I do in my spare time,” he says, “so to be put into a course where this information was structured and taught was captivating.”
