Ooltewah High needs handicap accessible bathrooms, not paint-striping machine

Last week we asked readers what they thought of the Hamilton County Commission’s approval of District 9 Commissioner Chester Bankston’s request to dip into the county’s line of credit to buy a $3,400 paint-striping machine for Ooltewah High School.

Here’s what we heard:

Instead of giving $3,400 for a paint sprayer that they could raise the money for and get… I think what they need to do is get some bathrooms and a handicap area so you can go up there and watch kids play. I’m old and it’s hard for me to walk on that gravel. If you were in a wheelchair, you couldn’t get up there [in the stands] to see them play.

There are no bathrooms for athletics outside, just port-o-potties, and it’s hard for handicapped people to get in there to use them. It’s just not very sanitary.
