LaFayette’s Southern Bliss Bakery has expanded its seating and menu to better welcome all appetites.

Originally located across from ShopRite on West Patton Street, the bakery moved to its present location at 1411 N. Main St. last January, where it more than doubled in size. Its new location holds 20 tables between the main dining room and the back patio. The former location had six tables.

“Business has doubled now that we are on North Main Street,” owner Shana Allgood said. “It was a very smart move.”

The menu draws on Allgood’s Southern roots for sandwich names, including the “LaFayette,” which features pastrami, corned beef, Swiss cheese and Russian dressing on rye bread.

Allgood said she decided to open the bakery because after 18 years of living in LaFayette, she realized more places were needed to eat lunch in town. Working in the field of accounting, she longed to get out from behind a desk and serve the community. She began baking and decorating cakes at first and then opened Southern Bliss Bakery three years ago.
