Bachman Community Center is busy preparing for its annual Fall Festival, set for Saturday, Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“It’s a tradition up here, and we’re happy to carry it on,” said Katy Murphy, marketing and programs director at Bachman. “It’s a great opportunity to enjoy some crisper air and the beautiful grounds we have here at Bachman.”

She said Bachman is still accepting applications from teams of up to five people for the festival’s chili cook-off, with a deadline of Thursday, Sept. 29. Applications are available online at the Bachman website. The fee is $50 per team.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners of the Best Tasting category, with $250 going to the first-place winner, $150 going to second place and $100 to third place, said Murphy. Each team should choose a theme – dressing in costume and decorating their booths accordingly – and attendees will vote on their favorites to determine the winners of the Best Theme category, she said.

For $5 per person, festival attendees can purchase tasting passes that allow them to sample all the teams’ chili entries. Murphy said the festival also features free children’s activities, including craft projects, a football throw, cornhole, a scavenger hunt and the chance to see different animals up close.

Murphy said the fees charged to participate in the cook-off and for tasting passes will go toward the preservation of the community center’s historic building and to support its programs.
