Chattanooga Convention and Visitors Bureau chief Bob Doak, whose group is under fire by Hamilton County Commissioner Tim Boyd, plans to address the government panel on Wednesday.
According to the CVB, Doak will speak at the request of Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger and County Commission Chairman Chester Bankston at 9:30 a.m. at the Courthouse.
“The Chattanooga Convention and Visitors Bureau has an unbroken record of achievement in creating a vibrant environment to grow the tourism industry in Hamilton County,” the CVB said in a statement. “The economic impact that is generated from these activities results in economic investments in our community that translate into additional jobs and significant financial investments.”
Boyd, chairman of the county’s finance committee, has questioned travel expenses by the tourism bureau’s staff, the roughly $400,000 the CVB spent to remodel its rented office space on the 18th floor atop the SunTrust building downtown, and the fact that the CVB gets 100 percent of the county’s hotel-motel tax revenue.
