A Sand Rock, Ala., man was jailed this week after deputies answered a fight call at a home in North Cherokee County, Ala., and found the man had shot a dog.
Colby Brunson, 31, was charged Wednesday with second-degree assault and aggravated cruelty to animals, Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver said in a statement.
Deputies arrived at a home in the Sand Rock community but Brunson already had fled the scene, Shaver said.
“Investigators quickly located Brunson at a nearby residence and took him into custody,” Shaver said.
Brunson was charged with assault in connection with the fight but he was also accused of shooting a dog.
“Investigators also recovered another dog, unharmed, and returned it to the owner,” Shaver said.
Brunson is being held at the Cherokee County Detention Center on a $3,000 bond.
