Hamilton County’s public schools have posted slight gains in TNReady test scores for grades 9-12 this year compared to last, but the district still trails the state in all but one subject, according to districtwide data released Wednesday.
Scores for grades 3-8, as well as school-specific scores, will be released later this fall, according to the Tennessee Department of Education. Districts, though, may choose to release their school-level end-of-course data earlier at their discretion.
Compared to last year, high schoolers scored an average of 3 percent better in most subjects. However, there was a slight decrease in Algebra 2, Biology and U.S. History, according to data from the Hamilton County Department of Education.
The state exceeds Hamilton County’s percentage scores for “on track” or “mastered” subjects by an average of 5 percent in all areas with the exception of Algebra 1. The district scored at 19 percent in that subject compared to 15 from the state.
Despite posting lower than the state average in most subjects, Hamilton County’s rank among other districts in the state increased by 14 percent. It was not clear what the district’s exact ranking was before and what it is now.
