Most of us know that smoothies are a relatively quick and easy way to get a healthy start to the day. They also can be a good midday pick-me-up and a tasty way to add nutrients to your diet.
But news flash, they can be filled with sugar – albeit the natural kind – squeezed out of fruits likes berries, bananas and apples.
From Kelsey Vasileff’s point of view, however, that’s more of a positive than a negative. Owner of Southern Sqweeze on Tremont Avenue, she says most of her customers know about the fruit-based sugars in their smoothies or juice drinks.
“Most of our customers do know that, but they looking for a type of healing you can get from real food,” she says. “Yes, there are sugars, but it is straight from the Earth and not processed and not from a machine, other than the blender.
“I truly believe if people ate all things from the Earth, we would be much healthier.”
