Mocs pick up commitment, hire strength coach

It’s been a busy couple of days for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football program.

New coach Tom Arth and his staff hosted a big official visit weekend for recruits and received at least one new commitment for national signing day on Feb. 1.

The Times Free Press confirmed two-star defensive back Jabril Malone from Whitehaven High School in Memphis made a nonbinding pledge to the Mocs. He was a four-year starter for the 2016 Class 6A state champions.

“I had a great vibe with the coaches and players,” he said of his commitment. “They welcomed me as if I was already on the team made me feel like I was at home. Great campus and also a great football program.”

He had 19 interceptions, five blocked field goals and three sacks in his prep career.
