Wyatt Walker reminds Samford basketball coach Scott Padgett of himself in a lot of ways.
And that’s certainly not a bad thing.
The 6-foot-9 sophomore forward has been one of the Southern Conference’s top performers so far this season, averaging 13.3 points and 10.4 rebounds a game for the 13-6 Bulldogs, who are 4-2 in the deep SoCon and play Saturday at 5 p.m. at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Padgett was a post player at Kentucky and went on to a seven-year NBA career.
“He’s a stubborn kid,” the coach said Tuesday by phone. “He keeps working. He’ll never accept the ‘I’m not good enough’ thing: He’s going to find a way, and he’s a lot like me in that way. He’s a competitor and tries to go out and win every game, every play. He’s got that competitive streak and he’s very skilled.”
