Two films honored at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles have Chattanooga ties.

The award for best supporting actor in a movie went to Mahershala Ali for his role in “Moonlight.”

Chattanooga native John Montague was an associate producer on the film.

You can read more about him here.

Hacksaw Ridge won the award for best stunt ensemble. The movie was about local Medal of Honor winner Desmond Doss.

Doss, who spent most of his adult life in Rising Fawn, Ga., was the only conscientious objector to ever win the Medal of Honor after he rescued 75 men during World War II’s Battle of Okinawa.

He returned home a national hero and retired to a quiet life in a small house on Lookout Mountain.
