FORT PAYNE, Ala. – A 5-year-old girl who drowned at the canyon mouth section of Little River Canyon National Preserve on June 18 has died at Chattanooga’s children’s hospital, park officials said.

The child and her family were visiting from Albertville, Ala., when she went under, according to a news release from park ranger Larry Beane.

Bystanders pulled her out and the girl was flown to T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital at Erlanger, where she died Friday, Beane said.

The family’s name has not been released.

Beane said Superintendent Steve Black and the park staff express their sincere sympathy to the family.
