Georgia authorities arrested two people traveling in a stolen vehicle Thursday after a high-speed chase that ended in Gordon County.
Sheriff Scott Chitwood said in a news release that Whitfield County Deputy Henderson had just returned to his vehicle from a traffic stop on Interstate 75 at mile marker 327 about 4:12 p.m. when his license plate reader alerted him about a stolen vehicle traveling south on the interstate.
Henderson located and followed the 2013 Nissan Versa with a Tennessee tag as it headed south on I-75. The vehicle accelerated when the deputy put on his blue lights and siren and the chase continued into Gordon County with speeds in excess of 120 mph with the Nissan passing other vehicles in the emergency lane, according to the release.
The Georgia State Patrol assisted in the chase and was able to stop the car using a precision immobilization technique maneuver in the south end of Gordon County.
The driver of the stolen vehicle, Christopher Snay, 38, of Tellico, Tenn., and passenger April Roach, 36, of Rossville, Ga., were taken into custody.
Snay has been charged with a felony count of theft by receiving stolen property (vehicle) and several traffic violations. Roach has been charged with one felony count of theft of receiving stolen property. Both suspects are being held in Gordon County Jail.
According to the release, the vehicle had been reported stolen in Rossville, Ga., on Saturday. Natasha Graham of Hixson, Tenn., had stopped at the Mapco on Chickamauga Avenue in Rossville and left the car running while she went into the store for a minute. When she returned the car was gone.
