Freedom of speech central to peace
The purpose of freedom of speech is to give everyone a hearing of their opinions, and every listener giving serious consideration to what others have to say. Then the best ideas of all parties can be incorporated into international relations, lawmaking, and even marriages.
But shouting down others without even considering their ideas is a perversion of freedom of speech. Disrespect festers into hatred. Hatred is the cause of international and civil wars, deadlocked lawmaking, and even divorces.
