Approximately 10,000 vehicles travel Northpoint Boulevard a day, making it a fairly significant thoroughfare in Hixson’s commercial district.
The rough stretch of road hasn’t been repaved in decades, but that will soon change.
City officials announced at a press conference last week that Chattanooga will get a donation of the right-of-way for a privately owned section of Northpoint Boulevard so it can repair the busy road.
The city planned to start Sunday, July 23, and spend one month and between $500,000 and $600,000 to repair the connector road between Highway 153 and Hixson Pike.
The city will start paving the publicly owned two-thirds of Northpoint first, as the City Council had yet to approve taking ownership of the privately owned portion. Officials were expected to take that vote at their meeting July 25 and approve an agreement under which the city will accept the right-of-way and repair the private one-third of Northpoint, which is notorious for potholes.
