UPDATE: The Tennessee Highway Patrol has opened one I-24 westbound lane passing through the extensive crash site near mile marker 165 in Marion County.

However, motorists still need to be very alert, THP spokesman Lt. John Harmon said.

“Both eastbound and westbound lanes will experience heavy traffic for several hours,” Harmon said. “Motorists need to be patient and follow each other at a safe distance in case they have to make sudden stops.”
