One doesn’t have to live north of the Interstate 75-Interstate 24 interchange in Tennessee or south of it in Georgia to know help is needed.
You might live in Lookout Valley and want to get to Hamilton Place mall on a Saturday and find traffic backed up. Or you might live in Hixson and need to make a weekday trip to Atlanta and find the spot where the two interstates come together still jammed well before or well after what should be peak hours.
Well, help is on the way.
On Monday, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam held a signing ceremony for the newly minted IMPROVE Act at the Welcome Center on I-75 near East Ridge.
The legislation – officially the Improving Manufacturing, Public Roads and Opportunities for a Vibrant Economy Act – will fund nearly 1,000 road and bridge improvements, including the rebuilding of the I-24/I-75 intersection, across all 95 of the state’s counties.
