Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson has identified the suspect in Thursday’s shooting death of a teen as 16-year-old Matthew Joel Durham, of Rossville, Ga.
Durham is charged with second degree murder and possession of a firearm by a person under the age of 18. He is being represented by the public defenders office and made his first court appearance Monday in Walker County Superior Court and was sent to the Rome Youth Development Center, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
No bond was set today, said Wilson.
Georgia law states a minor who is charged with murder can be tried as an adult.
Christopher Estes, 16, died after being shot in the head Thursday night on the 700 block of Shelly Lane in Rossville, Ga.
