Date opened: February 2017

Location: 8857 Dayton Pike, Suite D

Experience: Twenty-three-year-old Tyler Harris may be young, but he learned from his father Buddy, a veteran of construction and garage door installation.

Like father, like son: Harris forged out and created his own business rather than joining his father’s company. He got his start offering his services on Craigslist, but quickly grew into a full-fledged business with a storefront.

Homegrown: Harris graduated from Soddy-Daisy High School not too long ago, and still attends church in the area with his family. His younger brother and sister still attend school in Soddy-Daisy. “I think it matters to folks who they’re buying from,” Harris said.

Service range: Harris previously limited himself to installations in a 40-mile radius of Soddy-Daisy, but is expanding out to 60 miles.

Flexibility: “We try to price to whatever the customer’s needs are,” Harris said. According to him, he’s one of the only businesses in the market that is willing to negotiate prices with customers. “They have the comfort of knowing I’m not looking to price-gouge them.”

Pricing: Depending on options such as size, insulation, glass and materials, pricing for Harris’ garage doors vary, but he said they typically start around $550 for a standard-sized, very basic 9-by-7-foot model.

Monthly deals: “I try to offer something new every month,” Harris said. In March, he offered a discount on garage door openers for customers who visited his shop. In April, it was 10 percent off a new installation.

Coming up: Harris is gearing up for his first commercial, which will be airing on local television in the coming months.
