Hoover all-stater commits to UTC women's basketball program

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball program picked up its first commitment for the 2018 signing class over the weekend when guard Eboni Williams pledged to join the Mocs.

"The decision has been very difficult, but I have decided to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga," Williams tweeted.

The 6-foot junior guard/forward was an Alabama Class 7A first-team all-state selection for Hoover High School. She averaged 11.6 points and 7.5 rebounds a game and had 84 steals for the Lady Bucs, who won the 7A state championship.

She had scholarship offers from Alabama-Birmingham, Arkansas-Little Rock, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, Samford and South Alabama.

UTC's Mocs are expected to lose three seniors after the 2017-18 season: point guard Chelsey Shumpert and sisters Aryanna and Keiana Gilbert, both forwards.

Chattanooga finished the 2016-'17 the season at 21-11. UTC became the first team to win five consecutive SoCon Tournament championships, passing its record of four straight set in the early 2000's.
