UPDATE: Rob Simmons, public information officer for Chattanooga Police Department, said the incident has been resolved and there was no hostage situation. Only a barricaded suspect of a domestic assault.

The victim left the residence unharmed and informed police that the suspect was inside with a gun.

The suspect has been identified as Buster Verdin Garrison, 84. He has been charged with aggravated assault (domestic).

Garrison was taken to a local hospital suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. It appears the suspect may have shot himself at some point during the disorder.

Because of the domestic nature of this incident, the victim will not be identified.

ORIGINAL STORY: Chattanooga Police Department, SWAT team and hostage negotiators have been called to Highway 58 and Eller Road behind the Ace Hardware after an alleged domestic assault earlier today.

A report of shots fired was called in, and the alleged assailant retreated into a home and refuses to come out. Hostage negotiators are working to resolve the situation.

Rob Simmons, public information officer for the Chattanooga Police Department, said no one is in danger and there is minimal affect on local businesses.

Simmons did not confirm at the time whether the man was alone or had someone else in the home with him.

Ace Hardware employees said they had not heard any gunshots, but one cashier said she heard police yell at someone to put a gun down.

Chad Biggs, Ace Hardware assistant manager, said the incident was not affecting business, “other than people calling to make sure we’re open.”
