Three people were transported to local hospitals after a crash involving two tractor-trailers and five cars on Interstate 75 southbound at 1:38 a.m. Sunday.

The crash site was near the I-75/I-24 split. One man was struck as he got out of his vehicle and was thrown over a guard rail, according to a news release by the East Ridge Fire Department.

The release did not name the victims. It said one person was possibly in critical condition but did not give conditions for the others.

Tennessee Highway Patrol, East Ridge Fire Department, Puckett EMS and East Ridge Police responded to the scene, and a clean up company was called because of the amount of diesel fuel that was spilled.

All southbound lanes were closed for nearly an hour before one lane was reopened.
