College good, but be wary

It’s great that Tennessee is going to be the first state in nation to make community college free for all recent high school graduates. Other states are trying to replicate this program.

It would be a smart investment (just $11 million) to increase college education to 55 percent by 2025. Compare this cost with the cost of $15 million per mile of border wall (the total cost for 2,000 miles).

Some students see this program as a way to save money by going to community college for two years free before transferring to a four-year university.

We have to make sure those who take advantage of this program finish their education as anticipated. Otherwise, the state should make them pay the tuition.
